I call contra dances in central Canada. I’ve called for
Ottawa Contra Dance,
ContraMontreal,
and Toronto Contra Dance,
plus a couple of non-series barn dances.
Here are a few videos from dances I’ve called. (Thanks to Grace for getting
videos of the bands they’ve played in a few times when I happened to be
calling.)
- Montreal, 2026

I work part-time in arts production support, primarily making the paper (and
PDF) concert programmes for the Doors Open for
Music at Southminster series. I do a lot of editing of artist biographies
and sorting of promotional materials.
I have created and run parallel-text (translation) subtitles for choral
performances and produced full-length booklet programmes. I’m also noted as a
thorough proofreader, at least when proofreading what other people
have written.
I graduated
from Carleton University (computer science) where I worked on
topics including encouraging exploratory interaction, undo systems, and
collaboration on large touchscreens in the
HotSoft lab.
I’ve published several Firefox extensions, but most are now obsolete and no
longer available. A couple of them remain somewhat useful:
Open Bookmarks Slowly, and
Show
comic title-text.
My occasional drive-by contributions to Free Software projects are mostly
uninteresting. But one patch I wrote was
described as “impressive Make magic” by Christian Brabandt, maintainer of
Vim. I took it as a compliment.
